← All situations Urgent — act now
I'm being blackmailed with intimate photos or videos. What do I do?
First, breathe. It is not your fault and you are not alone. The people who do this rely on fear, shame and haste — so you pay before you can think clearly. But paying doesn’t free you; it encourages them. Your power is to not react, keep the evidence and ask for help. You are the victim here, not the guilty one.
First steps, right now
- Stop and breathe. You are not to blame and you are not the only one — this happens to many people, of all ages. Panic is exactly what they want.
- Do not pay. Paying doesn't stop anything — they usually ask for even more after the first amount.
- Do not reply and do not negotiate. Don't send more photos, messages or money. The less you react, the better.
- Keep the evidence: screenshots of the profile, the messages, the amounts demanded and the account address. Don't delete the conversation — it helps with the police report.
- Block the person and report the account on the platform (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Tell someone you trust and file a report with the Police (Poliția Română). Blackmail is a crime, and you are the victim.
What NOT to do
- Do not pay and do not give in to pressure — paying only encourages them to demand more.
- Do not send more images or money "to make it stop".
- Do not delete the conversation or their account — they are evidence.
- Do not isolate yourself out of shame. It is not your fault, and the people who love you will understand.
How to spot it next time
- A new, attractive account that rushes the conversation towards intimate photos or videos.
- Right after (or even without you having sent anything), they demand money so they "won't publish".
- They threaten to send it to your friends or family; they count on fear and shame.
- AI variant: FAKE intimate photos, made from your public photos. It is still blackmail, and you are still the victim.
