Urgent — act now

I got a link "to receive my money" on OLX. What do I do?

First, breathe. The trick behind this scam is that it makes you believe you are receiving money, so you let your guard down. But the truth is simple: nobody needs your card details to send you money. If a link asks for them “so you can get paid”, it’s a scam — and now you know.

First steps, right now

  1. Do not open the link and do not enter your card details. Remember the golden rule: to RECEIVE money you never need your card number, PIN or any code. Only to SEND money.
  2. If you have already typed in your card details, call your bank now on the number on the back of your card and ask them to block it.
  3. Keep the conversation inside the OLX app only and use the platform's own delivery and payment system, not links received via chat, WhatsApp or SMS.
  4. Report the user and the message in OLX.
  5. If you lost money, call your bank (payment recall) and file a report with the Police (Poliția Română), with your screenshots.

What NOT to do

  • Do not give your card details, PIN or any code to "receive" money — that is never how money is received.
  • Do not leave OLX for WhatsApp at the request of the "buyer" or the "courier".
  • Do not send a photo of your ID card or your bank card.

How to spot it next time

  • The "buyer" is in a big hurry, pays immediately and insists you receive the money through a link from a courier.
  • The link looks like Fan Courier / Sameday / OLX (Romania's main couriers and classifieds site), but the web address is slightly different (extra letters, hyphens, a different domain).
  • You are asked to "confirm receiving the money" by entering your card details — that is the clear sign of a scam.
  • The page asks for your card PIN or the code received by SMS. No genuine incoming payment ever asks for these.
